Highlights from our tour at the Forum in Fargo

Rosie:  Anyone who follows along with us knows we write this blog for Areavoices, the blogging division of Forum Communications Company in Fargo, N.D. which owns 36 newspaper and broadcast news properties throughout North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota. We had the pleasure of having a guided tour of Forum last Friday.

Gavin: Shane Mercer kindly showed us around. It’s surprising just how much work goes into printing a newspaper. We followed him through each stage, from beginning to end and he knowledgeably told us a little history about the place. If I could do things all over again, I think I would like to be a journalist and work at a place just like The Forum.

Rosie: I enjoyed the whole tour but especially was intrigued while viewing the long rolls of paper being fed into the printer with the different ink colors.

Gavin: Technical advances have come a long way since the dawn of printing and the wheels of time never stand still for very long. We either keep up with the others or we lose our ways. The Forum has been moving forwards in leaps and bounds. It’s not just typewriters and sheets of paper now. This is a new age and a new age deserves new ways of thinking. Six months ago The Forum added a local TV studio. I think this is only the beginning, think you are about to see a whole new world developing in front of your very eyes. You have to love progress.

Rosie: We both want to thank Shane for being so personable. We enjoyed the tour.  Our day in Fargo was wonderful!
